Oracle Database 19c reaches the end of Premier Support on 31 December 2029 and the end of Extended Support on 31 December 2032, according to Oracle's Lifetime Support Policy effective 2 October 2026. Oracle Database 21c leaves Premier Support in July 2027 and has no Extended Support. Oracle AI Database 26ai, the release Oracle previously called 23ai, has Premier Support to December 2031. The dates below are from Oracle's policy document, read on 31 October 2026. If you want a second team on the database while you plan, see AceMQ's Oracle Database page.

| 21c | Innovation Release | Aug 2021 | Jul 2027 | Not available |
| 19c | Long Term Support | Apr 2019 | 31 Dec 2029 | 31 Dec 2032 |
| 18c | Earlier release | Jul 2018 | Jun 2021 (ended) | Not available |
| 12.2.0.1 | Earlier release | Mar 2017 | 30 Nov 2020 (ended) | Not available |
| 12.1 Enterprise Edition | Earlier release | Jun 2013 | Jul 2018 (ended) | Jul 2022 (ended) |
| 11.2 | Earlier release | Sep 2009 | Jan 2015 (ended) | Dec 2020 (ended) |
Oracle lists 26ai where older articles list 23ai: the release was renamed and carries release number 23.26, so there is no separate 23ai row in the policy. For an older estate, the end of support for 12c, 18c and 11g has already passed, so the question for those databases is which release to move to, not when.
What Premier, Extended and Sustaining Support mean
Oracle describes three stages. Premier Support is the standard five years from general availability for a release, with new fixes, security alerts, critical patch updates and certification with most new products. Extended Support adds three more years for specific releases, for an additional fee, and keeps fixes and security updates coming, though it may not include certification with some new third-party products. Sustaining Support lasts as long as you license the product, but it does not include new fixes, new security alerts or critical patch updates, certification with new products, or Oracle's 24-hour Severity 1 response guidelines.
In practice, the date that matters for a security-minded team is the end of Extended Support, because that is when new security patches stop. The date that matters for budget is the end of Premier Support, because Extended Support is the stage that adds a fee.
Why older articles quote different 19c dates
Oracle lengthened the 19c timeline in early 2025; The Register reported the extension to 2032 on 18 February 2025. Articles written before then may carry earlier dates. Use Oracle's current policy document rather than a page that does not say when it was checked, and note that Oracle revises the table, so the date you plan around can move again.
The Java 8 footnote on 19c
Oracle's footnote for 19c says that from 1 May 2027, support is excluded for Java 8 related third-party software, which it says primarily affects the AIX, zLinux, HP-UX, Solaris and Windows ports. It adds that Java 8 Extended Support ends in December 2030 and that 19c will not receive Java updates after that date. HP-UX customers are pointed to a separate Oracle support statement for their dates. If you run 19c on one of those platforms, check the footnote against your configuration before you assume you have until 2029.
Your options before 19c support ends
- Stay on 19c on purpose. Premier Support runs to the end of 2029, so there is no emergency, but the plan should name the date you will decide and the owner of Release Updates in the meantime. Extended Support costs extra. If you want that work done for you, managed Oracle Database services cover Release Updates, restore tests and on-call.
- Upgrade to 26ai. Oracle's Upgrade Guide lists 19c (all releases) and 21c as the releases that can upgrade directly to 26ai. A database that is not a pluggable database has to be converted to one as part of the move, so a 19c non-CDB estate carries a multitenant conversion. Oracle names AutoUpgrade and Replay Upgrade as the supported tools.
- Move 18c and older to 19c first. Oracle supports direct upgrade to 19c from 11.2.0.4, 12.1.0.2, 12.2.0.1 and 18c, and says releases earlier than 19c cannot go straight to 26ai.
- Move some databases off Oracle. The cheapest database to keep on 19c is the one you no longer run. An assessment sorts the estate by Oracle-specific dependency; Oracle to PostgreSQL migration at scale covers the method.
- Add engineers, not patches. A third-party team can run the databases, answer at night and plan the upgrade. It cannot supply Oracle patches, which need an Oracle support contract. See third-party Oracle Database support.
Questions to answer before choosing
Which of your databases are on which release and edition? Are they non-CDB or multitenant? Do any run on a platform named in the Java 8 footnote? Which applications are certified on 26ai, and which are not? What does an Extended Support quote look like for the databases you would keep? Answers decide whether 19c is a destination or a stop on the way. Oracle Database consulting covers the upgrade planning, and the lifecycle position for each database is part of a health check.

Frequently Asked Questions
When does Oracle 19c support end?
Oracle's Lifetime Support Policy, effective 2 October 2026, gives Oracle Database 19c Premier Support to 31 December 2029 and Extended Support to 31 December 2032. Extended Support is available for an additional fee. Sustaining Support continues indefinitely but adds no new fixes or security updates.
Is Oracle 19c end of life?
Not yet. 19c is a Long Term Support Release still in Premier Support, which runs to 31 December 2029. Older releases are end of life: 18c left Premier Support in June 2021, 12.2.0.1 in November 2020 and 11.2 Extended Support ended in December 2020.
What is the difference between Premier, Extended and Sustaining Support?
Premier Support is the standard five years from release and includes new fixes and security updates. Extended Support adds three years for an additional fee and still delivers fixes and security updates. Sustaining Support is indefinite but gives no new fixes, security alerts or critical patch updates.
Can I upgrade straight from 19c to 26ai?
Yes. Oracle's Upgrade Guide lists 19c (all releases) and 21c as sources for a direct upgrade to Oracle AI Database 26ai. Databases earlier than 19c need a supported intermediate release first (19c is the usual one; Oracle's guide also lists 21c). A non-CDB database has to become a pluggable database as part of the move, because Oracle has desupported upgrades that stay non-CDB.
What happened to Oracle 23ai?
Oracle renamed 23ai to 26ai. The release number stays 23.26, and Oracle's support policy lists it as 26ai, a Long Term Support Release with Premier Support to December 2031.
When does Oracle 21c support end?
Premier Support for Oracle Database 21c, an Innovation Release, ends in July 2027. Oracle offers no Extended Support for it, so 21c databases need a plan before then.
Can a third party patch Oracle Database after support ends?
No third party can supply Oracle's own patches, which are available only with an Oracle support contract. A third party such as AceMQ can supply the engineers who run and troubleshoot the database and plan the upgrade, and tell you what a lapse in Oracle support leaves exposed.
